{"id":202501,"date":"2023-12-15T01:07:56","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T06:07:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=202501"},"modified":"2023-12-15T01:07:56","modified_gmt":"2023-12-15T06:07:56","slug":"halifax-council-votes-to-go-forward-on-two-affordable-housing-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/halifax-council-votes-to-go-forward-on-two-affordable-housing-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Halifax council votes to go forward on two affordable housing projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Halifax council is working to create more affordable housing in the city with the new Cogswell District and sale of surplus property.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Tuesday, councillors voted to use the upcoming Cogswell District and sell land owned by the municipality to create more affordable housing.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Staff were directed to continue developing a strategy for long-term affordable housing in the district, slated to be finished by fall 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the meeting, councillors also approved to declare <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.halifax.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/city-hall\/regional-council\/231212rc1515.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">six plots of land<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as surplus that will later be used for affordable housing projects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Coun. David Hendsbee asked that the seventh proposed site on Chamberlain Drive be temporarily removed in order to allow neighbouring property owners the chance to purchase it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another site in Upper Tantallon was asked to be removed by Coun.
