{"id":201015,"date":"2023-12-06T20:12:15","date_gmt":"2023-12-07T01:12:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=201015"},"modified":"2023-12-08T19:03:22","modified_gmt":"2023-12-09T00:03:22","slug":"unbc-launches-accessibility-feedback-mechanism-and-opens-it-up-for-feedback-as-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/unbc-launches-accessibility-feedback-mechanism-and-opens-it-up-for-feedback-as-well\/","title":{"rendered":"UNBC Launches Accessibility Feedback Mechanism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unbc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC)<\/a> has launched a new tool to identify barriers to accessibility on its campus.<\/p>\n<p>The new\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.unbc.ca\/equity-diversity-inclusion\/accessibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Accessibility Form<\/a> was timed to coincide with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcands.bc.ca\/indigenous-disability-awareness-month-idam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indigenous Disability Awareness Month<\/a> in November, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/day-of-persons-with-disabilities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Day of Persons with Disabilities<\/a> on Sunday December 3rd.<\/p>\n<p>With this feedback mechanism in place, the University will be better able to identify what barriers people are experiencing across campus, it\u2019s also a portal where people can identify potential solutions to these issues.<\/p>\n<p>Within the form, there are<a href=\"https:\/\/accessiblecampus.ca\/understanding-accessibility\/what-are-the-barriers\/?_gl=1*vjp33j*_ga*MTE0ODgyMDUyMi4xNjk5ODk0Mjkw*_ga_VSQHFPVSCS*MTcwMDI2MDUwNy40LjEuMTcwMDI2MDUwOS4wLjAuMA..\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> five categories <\/a>that accessibility barriers fall under -- attitudinal; organizational or systemic; architectural or physical; information or communications; and technological.<\/p>\n<p>CFUR News talked to <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.linkedin.com\/in\/mindygobbi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mindy Gobbi<\/a>, an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Specialist; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.unbc.ca\/people\/bowen-jean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jean Bowen<\/a>, an Access Coordinator at the Access Resource Centre.
