The primary objective of the program is to prepare volunteers for active duty in a more efficient manner.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously, individual fire departments were solely responsible for the recruitment and training of their own firefighters. With the implementation of this new program, the aim is to conduct recruitment drives twice a year and provide training to incoming volunteers at the \"RDCK Fire Training Academy\" before assigning them to their respective fire departments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tristan Fehst, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the regional deputy fire chief for the RDCK, says, \u201cwe\u2019re hoping to speed it up and condense it to train them up in over a three month period.\u201d With the previous approach some volunteers could take over one year to train.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are currently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rdck.ca\/EN\/main\/services\/fire-services\/fire-departments.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">16 volunteer fire departments<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> operating out of 17 fire halls<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> within the RDCK.
