The Six Nations Veterans Association needs young people to join the organization and become involved. That was one of the main themes of a conversation on National Indigenous Veteran\u2019s Day (Wednesday November 9th) with CKRZ News.<\/p>\n
Five members of the association joined in the conversation with CKRZ's David Moses -- the new President Bruce Paterson, as well as Wilby Issacs (Ike), Harley Bomberry, Rick Miller and Rick Mt. Pleasant.<\/p>\n
Although well represented at the interview, President Bruce Paterson stressed that with an aging veteran population younger members need to step up.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on the interview, Moses said \"The solemnness of the situation was apparent when without thinking I congratulated Bruce on his appointment to President of the Six Nations Veteran\u2019s Association, to which he quickly pointed out my mistake saying \"'That's not a term, I would use, congratulations'. When someone dies suddenly, I'm simply filling the position'.\"<\/p>\n
October and November are busy months for Vets. Right after the interview they were headed off to yet another event after already handing out the 'Thank a Vet' packages in Brantford and the surrounding area over several days, plus going to local schools for related Veteran\u2019s Day events.<\/p>\n
President Paterson also had a message that he wanted to share with anyone listening to remember POW's and MIA's who are also veterans.<\/p>\n
