{"id":193025,"date":"2023-11-08T07:11:46","date_gmt":"2023-11-08T12:11:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=193025"},"modified":"2023-11-08T07:11:46","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T12:11:46","slug":"juno-awards-announce-nelly-furtado-as-host-for-2024-award-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/juno-awards-announce-nelly-furtado-as-host-for-2024-award-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Juno Awards announce Nelly Furtado as host for 2024 award show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 2024 Juno Awards are heading to Halifax.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Allan Reid, president and CEO of the Junos, announced Tuesday morning that singer and 10 time Juno award winner, Nelly Furtado will be hosting the 53rd annual award show that will take place on March 24, 2024. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It will be the second time Furtado hosts the event after the 2007 Junos in Saskatoon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is such an opportunity for Nova Scotia musicians to be part of this, to bring some excitement to it,\u201d Premier Tim Houston said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Junos also announced that hip-hop trailblazer Maestro Fresh Wes will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, becoming the first rapper to receive this achievement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI will be the fourth Black artist ever inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame,\u201d Maestro Fresh Wes said. \u201cThis is monumental.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The humanitarian award will go to Calgary born sisters Tegan and Sara for their advocacy work supporting the LGBTQ+ community and will be presented to them by Halifax native Elliot Page.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Furtado, Maestro Fresh Wes along with Toronto rock group the Beaches and Montreal singer Charlotte Cardin are the first round of Juno performers to be announced. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Juno Awards charity MusiCounts will be receiving $1 from every ticket sold to go towards musical instruments and equipment for schools across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe put over $950,000 worth of instruments and gear and resources into the provinces, schools and communities and $250,000 of that right here in the Halifax region,\u201d Reid said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the story below:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2024 Juno Awards are heading to Halifax.
