{"id":191683,"date":"2023-11-03T01:08:54","date_gmt":"2023-11-03T05:08:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=191683"},"modified":"2023-11-03T01:08:54","modified_gmt":"2023-11-03T05:08:54","slug":"provincial-government-announces-new-healthcare-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/provincial-government-announces-new-healthcare-app\/","title":{"rendered":"Provincial government announces new healthcare app"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The provincial government announced a new app created in an effort to help Nova Scotians have better access to healthcare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The YourHealthNS app gives Nova Scotians the ability to book appointments on the mobile app. Appointments such as blood tests, X-rays, COVID-19 vaccine shots can all be booked through YourHealthNS. The app also provides access to vaccination records for patients, free same-day virtual care and predicts emergency department wait times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anyone with a valid Nova Scotia health card and email address can register to receive virtual care.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The app cost the province around $10 million to develop and the government says it is a \u201cone-stop shop\u201d for any healthcare needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe are getting to work to fix healthcare and to save our Medicare system,\u201d Premier Tim Houston says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The app is now available but patients will still need a referral from a doctor before booking appointments such as blood tests and X-rays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe will continue to iterate, we will get feedback, we will improve, we will expand and [the app] will grow,\u201d Scott McKenna, chief information officer for Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">YourHealthNS will offer Nova Scotians two free virtual health sessions per year, regardless of whether they have a family doctor.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For those who don\u2019t have a primary caregiver, Houston says, \u201cThis will mitigate that stress.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tara Sampalli, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">senior director of Implementation Science and Evaluation and Global Health Systems Planning and Nova Scotia Health, says this should not impact the capacity of the virtual care that is already available to Nova Scotians.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But Zach Churchill, leader of Nova Scotia\u2019s Liberal party says, \u201cpeople don\u2019t need apps, they need doctors.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Houston says the provincial government is also looking at long term solutions for healthcare. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI mentioned the investments in health care facilities, investments in long term care beds and the new medical school campus at CBU will make a difference over the medium to long term.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the story below:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The provincial government announced a new app created in an effort to help Nova Scotians have better access to healthcare.
