{"id":189889,"date":"2023-10-26T16:26:17","date_gmt":"2023-10-26T20:26:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=189889"},"modified":"2023-10-27T11:54:30","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T15:54:30","slug":"students-learning-firefighting-basics-in-new-class-at-essc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/students-learning-firefighting-basics-in-new-class-at-essc\/","title":{"rendered":"Students learning firefighting basics in new class at local high school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students at \u00c9cole secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge will now be able to select firefighting as one of their elective courses, due to a collaboration with MRC Pontiac and local fire departments.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of two school years, students will be able to complete their Firefighter 1 course, which covers the basics of the trade and would allow them to serve on any of the region's departments.<\/p>\n<p>MRC public safety coordinator Julien Gagnon explained that the project had been a long time coming, as L'\u00c9cole nationale des pompiers du Qu\u00e9bec had started two pilot projects at high schools in other MRCs just prior to the pandemic. He said that once those trials were complete, they got to work putting their own version together.
