{"id":187051,"date":"2023-10-18T14:08:54","date_gmt":"2023-10-18T18:08:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=187051"},"modified":"2023-12-05T15:10:33","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T20:10:33","slug":"fish-food-and-allied-workers-union-concerned-over-world-energy-gh2s-wind-hydrogen-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/fish-food-and-allied-workers-union-concerned-over-world-energy-gh2s-wind-hydrogen-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Fish Food and Allied Workers Union concerned over World Energy GH2&#8217;s wind hydrogen plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fish, Food and Allied Workers (FFAW) Union is adding their voice to concerns about World Energy GH2\u2019s proposed wind-hydrogen development on the southwest coast. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This includes <a href=\"https:\/\/worldenergygh2.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the construction of hundreds of wind turbines<\/a> on the Port au Port Peninsula and in the Codroy Valley.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FFAW Energy Industry Liaison Katie Power says fish harvesters are working and there\u2019s no way they could have read the 4,100 page environment impact statement in 50 days. She says members are concerned about the overall lack of transparency and consultation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Power says they thought it was a land project but are shocked to find out the potential impact this could have on marine life. She says they\u2019ve never been told the potential marine impact and it seems dismissive. Power says World Energy GH2 officials said they had been engaging the public for the past 18 months but did not contact the FFAW. She says they\u2019ve written letters to highlight their concerns to both levels of government and members are very worried about a number of grave effects on the marine environment, effluent runoff, dredging, and extra marine traffic at Harmon port, where fishers would be impacted. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The environment minister is expected to make an announcement on the project within a couple of weeks.
