{"id":185156,"date":"2023-10-05T17:11:13","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T21:11:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=185156"},"modified":"2023-10-06T15:03:24","modified_gmt":"2023-10-06T19:03:24","slug":"nurse-practitioners-relieve-stress-for-unattached-patients-in-bc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/nurse-practitioners-relieve-stress-for-unattached-patients-in-bc\/","title":{"rendered":"Nurse practitioners relieve stress for unattached patients in BC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the Bulkley Valley \/ Witset Primary Care Network opened to the public in\u00a0January\u00a0spring\u00a0of 2023, Deborah Lowe was\u00a0one of two\u00a0the first\u00a0Nurse\u00a0Practitioner hired to work in the\u00a0Smithers Primary Care Clinic.\u00a0The Smithers Primary Care Clinic is a new clinic, which is part of the Primary Care Network.The Primary Care Network or PCN is a new facility\u00a0open to residents of the Bulkley Valley who are in need of care and currently do not have a\u00a0Family\u00a0Doctor or\u00a0Nurse Practitioner.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is one part in an ongoing series by CICK news to break down the <a href=\"https:\/\/bccare.ca\/2022\/10\/provincial-government-releases-hhr-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health Human Resources Strategy<\/a>, a plan <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to optimize the health system, expand training and further improve recruitment and retention, which began in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The strategy will support patients who rely on the public health-care system by adding more doctors, nurses and health sciences professionals, adding new education and training seats, taking actions to improve retention and to optimize the system to help with workload.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The strategy will focus on four key areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Retain: Foster healthy, safe and inspired workplaces, supporting workforce health and wellness, embedding reconciliation, diversity, inclusion and cultural safety and better supporting and retaining workers in high-need areas, building clinical leadership capacity and increasing engagement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Redesign: Balance workloads and staffing levels to optimize quality of care by optimizing scope of practice, expanding and enhancing team-based care, redesigning workflows and adopting enabling technologies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recruit: Attract and onboard workers by reducing barriers for international health-care professionals, supporting comprehensive onboarding and promoting health-care careers to young people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Train: Strengthening employer supported training models;
