The money will be used to support Indigenous students at the college through Selkirk's <a href=\"https:\/\/selkirk.ca\/about-selkirk\/selkirk-college-foundation\/events\/giving-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giving Day Fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Jupp, manager of Advancement and Alumni Relations at Selkirk College says, \u201cquite often Indigenous students face higher costs of following their educational dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many of Selkirk's indigenous students relocate to the area to attend post-secondary. This money will be used as an emergency fund: it\u2019s available to Indigenous students facing financial difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to support all areas of the college and this is an area we felt we can make a valuable difference,\u201d said Ron Anderson, who presented the cheque on behalf of Grant Thornton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe college has always been a valuable part of my life,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the story on CJLY below:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Selkirk College received a $5,000 donation from the Grant Thornton office in Castlegar, the audit, tax and accounting firm.
