Two demonstrations took place in Prince George, BC Wednesday September 20th. A 1 Million March 4 for Children<\/a> demonstration which advocated for the removal of SOGI focused learning material from classrooms, occurred in the morning at 11am. It was followed by No Space For Hate<\/a>\u00a0demonstration later that afternoon at 4pm primarily voicing it's support for the local LGBTQIA2S+ community.<\/p>\n

In this two part series, CFUR compares and contrasts both demonstrations.<\/p>\n

Part 1 focuses on people attending 1 Million March for Children event to discover what happening in the community and what was motivating some of these individuals to take to the streets.\u00a0 Clarifying aspects of the current educational practices in place within School District 57<\/a> (Prince George), is local educator and president of the Prince George District Teachers Association, Daryl Beauregard.<\/p>\n

Some participants told CFUR that they felt that SOGI curriculum content was inappropriately being shared in classrooms. More specifically, material of an explicit nature, and\/or material that persuades youth to consider an LGBTQIA2S+ identity themselves. A promotional item shared ahead of the 1 Million March 4 Children event displayed a calendar<\/a> of events, suggesting many LGBTQIA2S+ themed days. However CFUR discovered that these events are not found on SD57's website<\/a> or shared calendar.<\/p>\n
