{"id":181906,"date":"2023-09-25T15:33:05","date_gmt":"2023-09-25T19:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=181906"},"modified":"2023-09-25T15:33:05","modified_gmt":"2023-09-25T19:33:05","slug":"transcoastal-adaptations-climate-change-project-receives-1-9-million-from-the-province","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/transcoastal-adaptations-climate-change-project-receives-1-9-million-from-the-province\/","title":{"rendered":"Transcoastal Adaptations climate change project receives $1.9 million from the province"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transcoastal Adaptations were recipients of funding from the province announced by Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The $4.4 million was given to six projects in the agriculture sector to respond to climate change.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The funding from the province of Nova Scotia supports the centre's current wetland restoration project\u2014Making Room for Wetlands: Coastal Carbon Edition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transcoastal Adaptations is a climate action centre at Saint Mary\u2019s University; the centre undertakes projects related to climate change adaptation.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transcoastal Adaptation and its partners are receiving $1.9 million of the funding.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019re working with Saint Mary's and the Department of Agriculture to try to address some of the challenges and issues that the province is experiencing with respect to climate change and its impacts on our dyke land systems and our coastal communities in the Bay of Fundy,\u201d Tony Bowron, co-founder of Transcoastal Adaptations, says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The dyke land system helps protect agricultural lands, communities and public infrastructure throughout the province, the centre\u2019s website explains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhat can we do to these dyke land systems to not just meet the current climate needs, but also into the future and what makes the most engineering, economic and ecological sense for the systems,\u201d Bowron says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Climate change causing water levels to rise and causing more severe and frequent storms is the reason the Making Room for Wetlands project exists, Bowron says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The funding is part of the province\u2019s Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act and will also go to Perennia Food and Agriculture, Horticulture Nova Scotia, Agri-Commodity Management Association, Christmas Tree Council of Nova Scotia and NSCAD University\u2019s Flaxmobile project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the story below:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Transcoastal Adaptations were recipients of funding from the province announced by Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow on Tuesday.
