A tennis club was present at Erin council last week with its hopes set on getting a $150k investment to repair their courts.<\/p>\n
Erin Tennis Club President Andrew Salisbury told council the remaining funds to complete the $250k cost would be raised internally. Salisbury explained that the club was hoping for a solution that wouldn't require consistent upkeep.<\/p>\n
The courts have been repaired several times in recent years for wear-and-tear quick fixes.<\/p>\n
\"It's simple to repair things, cracks are relatively inexpensive to repair but they don't last,\" Salisbury stated.<\/p>\n
\"We're going through every three years looking at repairing cracks. So, we feel we should come with a solution that is a little more long-term focused,\" he concluded.<\/p>\n
After lots of discussion with a court company, Salisbury proposed the idea of an asphalt lift, which is three inches of asphalt on top of the court and then layers of paint, fibreglass and court re-surfacing materials.<\/p>\n
Coun. John Brennan wasn't opposed to the idea of supplying the funds, but he was wary of how quickly it could get done.<\/p>\n
\"Realistically speaking, I don't see the possibility of doing a tender by August 31st. What we have to do is we have to refer this back to staff to find a way of how we're going to finance this,\" Brennan said.<\/p>\n
\"Either this year, or obviously if it's next year, that becomes a part of the budget process for 2024,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Coun. Bridget Ryan, meanwhile, said she dropped by the club recently and had nothing but good reviews.<\/p>\n
Council will talk the matter over before coming back with a report.<\/p>\n
