{"id":173541,"date":"2023-08-18T11:53:14","date_gmt":"2023-08-18T15:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=173541"},"modified":"2023-08-23T11:54:19","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T15:54:19","slug":"musgo-rider-to-receive-130k-for-green-initiatives-province","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/musgo-rider-to-receive-130k-for-green-initiatives-province\/","title":{"rendered":"MusGo Rider to receive 130k for green initiatives: province"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MusGo Rider, a non-profit transportation service, will receive $130,400 from the province\u2019s Sustainable Communities Challenge Fund.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The funding will go towards implementing more charging stations for their electric vehicles and adding solar panels to their office building.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jessie Greenough, executive director of MusGo Rider, says the organization is also in the process of building a heated garage for their vehicles that will have solar panels to heat it as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The service is part of the Rural Transportation Association and offers affordable and accessible rural transportation around HRM.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe take people to Halifax a lot for medical appointments for seniors or any people with disabilities,\u201d Greenough says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sustainable Communities Challenge Fund was established in October 2021 as part of the Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act. The fund provides $15 million over three years for projects that help reduce the impacts of climate change and reduce Nova Scotia\u2019s greenhouse gas emissions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/novascotia.ca\/news\/release\/?id=20230815001#:~:text=the%20Sustainable%20Communities%20Challenge%20Fund%20was%20established%20on%20October%2027,use%20energy%2C%20make%20homes%20more\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A press release<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the Government of Nova Scotia estimates MusGo Rider\u2019s solar panels will reduce the office buildings greenhouse gas emissions by 589 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MusGo Rider had electric vehicles before receiving the funding but Greenough says this funding will help move them in the direction of their goal to be fully electric.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the organization uses hybrid vans for transporting multiple customers and accessibility vans for people with wheelchairs or other mobility devices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou can\u2019t get an accessible electric vehicle, there\u2019s no such thing,\u201d Greenough says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The service hopes to be fully electric in the next year and a half.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the story below:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MusGo Rider, a non-profit transportation service, will receive $130,400 from the province\u2019s Sustainable Communities Challenge Fund.\u00a0 The funding will go towards implementing more charging stations for their electric vehicles and adding solar panels to their office building.
