Some members of the black community in Victoria British Columbia (BC) have advised their other members to adhere to the recent pronouncements by the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.<\/p>\n

Henry announced over the weekend that the COVID-19 figures in BC rose by 817 over the weekend: 317 new cases from Friday to Saturday, 293 from Saturday to Sunday and 207 from Sunday to Monday.<\/p>\n

Tom Nguyen told CFUV 101.9 FM<\/p>\n

``That is a very high number in just three days. If not handled carefully, people may not survive the second lockdown. I think rules put in place by Bonnie Henry should be strictly adhered to.<\/p>\n

``This isn\u2019t the time to be selfish, we have to make sacrifices for ourselves and everyone around us,\u2019\u2019 Nguyen said.<\/p>\n

CFUV spoke to Ghidei Efrem, who said as a mother, the news was scary but she encouraged people to step up their safety measures.<\/p>\n

``As a mother with three kids that\u2019s some really scary news. I know we are in the second wave of the pandemic, but I was hopeful we would somehow beat it.<\/p>\n

``Most of the people I know in my circle if not all wear masks, are very careful and they sanitize frequently because they do not want to be caught up in the pandemic.<\/p>\n

``However, I think whatever we were doing before, we really, really need to double it up just to be on the safe side.\u2019\u2019 Efrem said.<\/p>\n

Dr Henry informed the province there had also been three deaths, 2,325 active cases, four new healthcare outbreaks bringing the total to 21.<\/p>\n

Henry singled out social gatherings as the direct lead to COVID-19 cases and issued a new order limiting gatherings in private homes to a \u2018\u2019safe six\u2019\u2019 only.<\/p>\n

She said it was expected that businesses and indoor spaces would enforce mask wearing henceforth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
