This Saturday and Sunday Nanaimoites are encouraged to put household items and furniture on the curb for the 20th year of the Reuse Rendezvous.<\/p>\n
The annual \"city-wide swap meet\" encourages residents to reuse unwanted items instead of taking them to the landfill.<\/p>\n
Taaj Daliran, Manager of Sanitation, Recycling & Public Works, not only helps run the program, he has found some items that he has needed over the years.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe program is designed to have furniture, toys, small appliances, sporting goods, tools, and other usable items that we usually have in our houses,\u201d said Daliran. \u201cI personally got a free shovel for my mini-farm that I'm building at my home.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nanaimo\u2019s Mayor Leonard Krog will also be participating in the event this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI'm at the stage where I need to be putting stuff out, not bringing stuff home. My wife has made it very clear to me that if I bring more stuff home, then I might be put out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI certainly hope people will take advantage of this as I say a great community event opportunity to do the right thing for all of us and do the right thing for the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n
If you would like to participate in the reuse rendezvous this weekend simply put a \u201cFREE\u201d tag on your unwanted items and place them at the curb in front of your home on the weekend of July 22 and 23.<\/p>\n
