{"id":168345,"date":"2023-07-21T15:45:24","date_gmt":"2023-07-21T19:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=168345"},"modified":"2023-07-21T15:45:24","modified_gmt":"2023-07-21T19:45:24","slug":"results-show-one-third-of-recent-well-water-test-kits-in-nl-contained-contaminants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/results-show-one-third-of-recent-well-water-test-kits-in-nl-contained-contaminants\/","title":{"rendered":"Results show one-third of recent well water test kits in NL contained contaminants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recent results from over 3,000 well water test kits in Newfoundland show that 1,000 samples have potential contaminants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThey found a variety of different things like lead, uranium, cadmium, manganese, things that naturally occur but it\u2019s nice for people in their homes to know what adjustments may be required,\u201d Environment and Climate Change Minister Bernard Davis says. \u201cThe goal of this project is to help lower health risks related to consuming groundwater with naturally occurring contaminants.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Davis says it\u2019s important that people know the quality of their drinking water. More than 2,000 free well water chemistry test kits are still available to private well owners throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.\u00a0 These kits can be picked up at any Digital NL Services office and returned after the tests have been done. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Davis says this pilot was launched last December to collect baseline groundwater data in Newfoundland and Labrador. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe didn\u2019t know to be quite honest.
