{"id":162075,"date":"2023-06-20T16:44:54","date_gmt":"2023-06-20T20:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=162075"},"modified":"2023-06-20T17:03:37","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T21:03:37","slug":"wellington-north-enacts-new-bylaw-regarding-cannabis-growth-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/wellington-north-enacts-new-bylaw-regarding-cannabis-growth-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"Wellington North enacts new bylaw regarding cannabis growth, regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cannabis continues to be a hot topic <a href=\"https:\/\/thegrand101.com\/2023\/06\/19\/centre-wellington-conducting-private-cannabis-retail-survey\/\">not only in Centre Wellington<\/a>, but across the county as well.<\/p>\n<p>In an April Centre Wellington council meeting, the plausibility of dispensaries in the township was discussed. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connectcw.ca\/private-cannabis-retail-in-centre-wellington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A new survey<\/a> hopes to gauge community opinion to aid in council's decision.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, cannabis growth and regulations were talked about at a Wellington North meeting last night. A new bylaw would allow hemp and cannabis to be grown on any property 25 acres or larger.<\/p>\n<p>In the bylaw, the standard is 500 metres of separation from a settlement area, and 300 metres from sensitive land use. Coun. Penny Renken wasn't thrilled by those numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\"I'm just concerned that the area on the sensitive land between the house and the lot line may be occupied by family or children playing there, so I think that might be a little close,\" Renken said.<\/p>\n<p>Renken also said she has had challenges in the past with odours from cannabis plants, and that translates into sympathy for individuals who may be affected.<\/p>\n<p>\"It's the concern for the people and the residents I'm worried about. When I was working I had to be in contact with raw marijuana plants that were ceased and I ended up with a sore throat and headaches, so I think that's a real concern for the people living in these residences,\" she explained.<\/p>\n<p>But the bylaw was passed 3 to 1, despite Renken's opposition, and residential, agricultural and industrial rural cannabis zones will now require a bylaw amendment. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellington-north.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-06\/06-19-2023%20Public%20Meeting%20Agenda.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A report<\/a> stated that this bylaw does not affect the personal growing regulation of four plants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the CICW story below:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cannabis continues to be a hot topic not only in Centre Wellington, but across the county as well.
