{"id":16094,"date":"2020-10-21T15:09:51","date_gmt":"2020-10-21T19:09:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=16094"},"modified":"2020-10-21T16:43:37","modified_gmt":"2020-10-21T20:43:37","slug":"centre-wellington-gets-tough-on-littering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/centre-wellington-gets-tough-on-littering\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre Wellington gets tough on littering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Soon you will be facing a fine for littering or illegal dumping in Centre Wellington, as council approved a new bylaw at their committee of the whole meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Kelly Linton says the problem was, there was no proper bylaw in place that allowed the township to address littering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would put signs up to let people know, but it wasn\u2019t enforceable legally, so [\u2026] [we had to] make sure that we had a bylaw that prohibited people from littering across Centre Wellington, and then established fines, so when they do, we can hold them accountable,\u201d Linton said.<\/p>\n<p>Linton said fines have not been approved yet, but they are looking at starting them at $150 for littering.<\/p>\n<p>Linton said fines for illegal dumping could look a lot different.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf somebody throws an apple core for instance, or somebody drops a trailer full of trash, there will definitely be a different fine.
