{"id":160888,"date":"2023-06-16T13:01:38","date_gmt":"2023-06-16T17:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=160888"},"modified":"2023-06-16T15:11:13","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T19:11:13","slug":"new-president-of-doctors-nova-scotia-focused-on-stabilizing-family-medicine-physician-retention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/new-president-of-doctors-nova-scotia-focused-on-stabilizing-family-medicine-physician-retention\/","title":{"rendered":"New president of Doctors Nova Scotia focused on stabilizing family medicine, physician retention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/doctorsns.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS)<\/a> has a new president who is looking to prioritize family medicine and physician retention across the province.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Colin Audain was appointed to the role for the 2023-24 year during the DNS annual conference June 10.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audain becomes president as Nova Scotia\u2019s primary care waitlist <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/public.tableau.com\/app\/profile\/nova.scotia.health\/viz\/ActionforHealth-PublicReporting\/Overview\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">surpasses 148,000<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and many residents seek a family physician's care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou hear that on a daily basis, that people don\u2019t have access to a family doctor,\u201d Audain says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>DNS is a medical association that represents more than 3,500 physicians across the province. The association works as the medical profession\u2019s united voice on healthcare issues.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although Audain couldn\u2019t comment on the contract negotiations between DNS and the provincial government, he says they are aligned with bringing Nova Scotians the best access to healthcare and optimistic they will reach a deal soon.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The deal also focuses on physician retention which Audain says in turn will cut down surgery and emergency room wait times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audain received his medical training at Dalhousie Medical School and completed his specialty training at Memorial University of Newfoundland.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has worked as a general anesthesiologist at the Victoria General and the Halifax Infirmary since 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the CKDU story below:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS) has a new president who is looking to prioritize family medicine and physician retention across the province.
