Prince Edward Lennox-Addington Social Services (PELASS), in partnership with the county, plan to build affordable and attainable housing, as well as childcare and medical facilities on the 4.59 acre site.<\/p>\n<p>Council also directed county staff to proceed with an application to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) for funding through their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca\/en\/professionals\/project-funding-and-mortgage-financing\/funding-programs\/all-funding-programs\/housing-accelerator-fund\">Housing Accelerator Fund<\/a> (which is aimed at helping local governments increase housing supply) and their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca\/en\/professionals\/project-funding-and-mortgage-financing\/funding-programs\/all-funding-programs\/co-investment-fund\">Co-Investment Funding<\/a> program (which allows for organizations partnered with a government to apply for housing funding).<\/p>\n<p>During <a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/pec-greenlights-queen-elizabeth-school-offer-to-purchase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">past meetings<\/a>, Charles Dowdall, executive director of housing for the county, stated that there is a high likelihood of CMHC funding being approved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the full story below:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prince Edward County purchased a former school this week that it plans to use for affordable housing.
