The Performers\u2019 Theatre Company is just about ready to open its latest production, <em>Stanton\u2019s Garage<\/em>, this Friday evening at the Performers\u2019 Space on Fairfield Road in Sackville. Written by Joan Ackerman and directed by Sackville\u2019s Chris Farella, Stanton\u2019s Garage is part reflection on life, and part comedy of errors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has this sort of personal, introspective, reflective side to it,\u201d says actor Ben H\u00e9bert, \u201cand then it has this more sort of goofy, silly side, which Performers\u2019 [Theatre Company] is really known for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The play is set in the quintessential rural garage, says H\u00e9bert, complete with a quirky cast of characters. \u201cWhen people see this garage, we want them to be like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019ve been in this garage. I\u2019ve talked to these people before.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Actor Faith Higgins says the set design has recreated the atmosphere of a small town garage, made easier with the cooperation and generosity of a local garage owner. \u201cWe were able to pull a bunch of junk that he just had lying around for like 10, 20 years in order to make our set look just identical to his,\u201d says Higgins, complete with decades of grease and oil residue.<\/p>\n<p>This is Higgins second production with Performers\u2019, having served as assistant stage manager for <em>\u00a0Hound of the Baskervilles<\/em>. She says the experience has rounded out her skill set as a drama student at Mount Allison, where she has learned how to work with more high-end equipment. At Performers\u2019 she is learning the art of lighting and design on a shoestring budget.<\/p>\n<p>H\u00e9bert says he is grateful for the volunteer-run theatre company. \u201cI didn\u2019t have a lot of theatre experience growing up,\u201d says H\u00e9bert, \u201cand it was something I just wanted to get into. And Performers\u2019 has given me the opportunity to just explore that a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stanton\u2019s Garage opens this Friday June 16 at the Performers Theatre Company space at 3 Fairfield Road. The show runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30pm, with a matinee on Sunday at 2pm.
