The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's will be held this weekend with Kitchener Guelph and Mount Forest playing host to the event.<\/p>\n
The walk aims to raise $100,000 for Alzheimer\u2019s Society of Waterloo Wellington.<\/p>\n
Larry Lutgendorff, fund director for the society, says dementia is becoming a massive issue across the country but also local to Centre-Wellington.<\/p>\n
\u201cDementia is a growing epidemic in Canada. There\u2019s over 600,000 people that have a diagnosis. That translates to in our region about 16,500 people. In the next 25, years we expect that number to triple.\u201d<\/p>\n
As of now, approximately $75,000 of a target $100,000 has been raised. In Mount Forest, the walk will be at Wellington Park and at Exhibition Park in Guelph.<\/p>\n
Lutgendorff is hoping for a good turnout of 500 people as the money raised is crucial to the society's operations and the wellbeing of those who deal with Alzheimer's.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe money that we raise stays here locally. It goes to programs that are really important to people who suffer from Alzheimer\u2019s,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMinds in motion is a social activity as well as an exercise and health regiment that helps people with Alzheimer\u2019s slow the spread of the disease,\u201d Lutgendorff concluded.<\/p>\n
