An opportunity to tell stories and make film industry connections awaits attendees of a meeting tomorrow in Erin.<\/p>\n
The inaugural film networking meeting will be held by Wellington Creates, a grassroots organization hoping to bring television and film productions local to Erin.<\/p>\n
Neighbouring communities have become popular film locations, with smash hits like Schitt\u2019s Creek and Murdoch Mysteries both filmed in and around Fergus\/Elora area.<\/p>\n
Erin has been the odd one out, but Wellington Creates Founder David Spencer believes it offers several rural locations that could make perfect sites for film. After a presentation at an Erin Mayor\u2019s Breakfast, he received increased interest from those with suitable properties.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne woman has a lavender farm. There\u2019s a cattle farm, there\u2019s a dairy farm. There are all kinds of farms in the area that would be ideal for certain kinds of film shoots,\u201d Spencer said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of the architecture\u2019s unique, pretty amazing in different parts of the area,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Spencer would like to see local youth gain more interest in film, so it can take off in Erin, a town he thinks has broad potential.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I\u2019ve noticed is the location scout makes a connection, brings production in and then people talk and say that was a good experience,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey end up coming back or a different project comes back\u2026 In Erin if we had four or five potential locations, those could be used numerous times throughout the year,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The meeting won\u2019t be lacking industry experience, with several Toronto-area film school professors and a 35-year veteran of animation set to attend and share stories.<\/p>\n
It will take place at the Erin Rural Commons from 10 a.m. to noon tomorrow.<\/p>\n
