There were\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bccdc.ca\/Health-Info-Site\/Documents\/BC_Surveillance_Summary_Oct_15_2020.pdf\">968 cases reported in British Columbia last week<\/a>. The majority were in the Fraser and North Coast Health Regions.\u00a0 Vancouver Island continues to report the lowest numbers in the province and there were only two new cases in North Vancouver Island last week.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\">\n<p><div id=\"attachment_89199\" style=\"width: 752px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-16-at-6.08.24-AM.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89199\" class=\"wp-image-89199\" src=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-16-at-6.08.24-AM.png\" alt=\"Only two new cases reported in North Vancouver Island last week\" width=\"742\" height=\"453\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-89199\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"http:\/\/Maps at the BC Centre for Disease Control\">Maps at the BC Centre for Disease Control<\/a><\/p><\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>New Cases on Vancouver Island<\/h2>\n<p>Comparing weekly maps released by the BC Centre for Disease Control\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ts-press-statements\/covid19_hsda_cumulative_14days_20201015.png\">yesterday<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/campbell-river-health-area-is-relatively-covid-free\/\">a week before<\/a>, we find:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two new cases in North Vancouver Island<\/li>\n<li>eight in Central Vancouver Island<\/li>\n<li>and six in Southern Vancouver Island<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img class=\"wp-image-89200 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-16-at-6.00.10-AM-423x600.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"423\" height=\"600\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>New Cases in the Campbell River Health Area<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/campbell-river-health-area-is-relatively-covid-free\/\">CHEK News reported a new case<\/a>\u00a0at Carihi Secondary School, in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/campbell-river\/\">Campbell River<\/a>, last week.*<\/p>\n<p>These may be among the four that the BC Centre for Disease Control reported in the North Vancouver Island since October 1st.<\/p>\n<p>The last data specific to the Campbell River Health Region, which includes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/cortes-island\/\">Cortes<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/quadra-island\/\">Quadra<\/a>\u00a0and the rest of the Discovery Islands, was released on September 30th \u2013 at which point there had been no new cases since at least July \u2013 if not earlier.<\/p>\n<h2>The most likely source of infection<\/h2>\n<p>The Thursday, October 15th report adds that, \u201cThe most likely source of infection remains contact with a local case or cluster, with a large proportion of recent cases still pending exposure information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are no COVID patients in the hospital or critical care anywhere on Vancouver island.<\/p>\n<p>*Editor's Note: This story has been corrected to reflect an updated case count<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Roy L Hales Though the numbers are still rising, there are still fewer deaths and and hospitalizations in the second wave of\u00a0COVID 19.
