{"id":151625,"date":"2023-05-03T15:44:32","date_gmt":"2023-05-03T19:44:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=151625"},"modified":"2023-05-03T15:44:32","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T19:44:32","slug":"gitxaala-enterprises-corporation-acquire-prince-ruperts-crest-hotel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/gitxaala-enterprises-corporation-acquire-prince-ruperts-crest-hotel\/","title":{"rendered":"Gitxaala Enterprises Corporation acquire Prince Rupert&#8217;s Crest Hotel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On May 1, the Gitxaala Enterprises Corporation (GECO) announced their acquisition of the Crest Hotel in Prince Rupert.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Starting out as the 44 unit \"Crest Motor Hotel\" in 1961, the Crest has grown to now feature 107 rooms, a lounge, a restaurant, and employs close to 100 people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tina Smith, previous owner and daughter of the original owners' Bill and Gwen Murray, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/gitxaalanation.com\/gitxaala-enterprises-corporation-acquires-crest-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a> that they are excited about the transition of ownership to GECO and are confident that the level of service at the Crest will continue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CEO and President of GECO, Michael Uehara says that the change of ownership will not result in any operational changes, and they will continue to work with the previous owner Steve Smith and Scott Farwell to ensure a smooth transition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But Uehara added that guest perception of the hotel may change to hold more pride in lodging in a First Nation owned business.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to Uehara, the acquisition has been in the works for the past year and a half.
