{"id":149709,"date":"2023-04-21T16:16:44","date_gmt":"2023-04-21T20:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=149709"},"modified":"2023-04-22T11:55:59","modified_gmt":"2023-04-22T15:55:59","slug":"six-nations-mourns-death-of-former-councilor-deborah-styres-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/six-nations-mourns-death-of-former-councilor-deborah-styres-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"Six Nations mourns death of former councilor Deborah Styres Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six Nations is mourning the loss of former councilor Deborah Styres Hill who passed away on April 18 with family by her side.<\/p>\n<p>Styres-Hill began her political career with Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) from 1992 to 1993 after she was the winner of a by-election to take over the District #3 position left by George Bomberry. She was then re-elected as the councillor for District #3 under the Forty-Ninth Elected Council from 1994 to 1995.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=614186754069077&amp;set=pcb.614186797402406\">press release<\/a> from SNEC on Thursday night, it stated that Styres Hill came to council on a mission to make a change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer dedication to community and political advocacy is resounding today in education, employee wellness and special needs and mental health healthcare,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n<p>Some key projects she worked on with SNEC included being the b<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and council representative on the board of directors for the Six Nations Special Services for Special People \u2013 now known as Ronatahskats (Six Nations Community Living); she sat on the building committee for the Building Project of I.L. Thomas Elementary School; s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he participated in the review of Employment Policy; and she was one of the council members that sat on the Elections Guidelines Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Six Nations Elected Chief Mark Hill offered his condolences to Styres Hill\u2019s family and friends in the press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hearts go out to Deborah\u2019s family and friends as we mourn her extraordinary life,\u201d he said. \u201cDeborah\u2019s leadership and advocacy for the Six Nations Community will never be forgotten,\u201d Hill stated.<\/p>\n<p><em>CJKS reached out to Chief Hill but he was unavailable for further comments.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>For the full CJKS story listen below:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Six Nations is mourning the loss of former councilor Deborah Styres Hill who passed away on April 18 with family by her side.
