{"id":148461,"date":"2023-04-13T16:34:37","date_gmt":"2023-04-13T20:34:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=148461"},"modified":"2023-04-13T16:34:37","modified_gmt":"2023-04-13T20:34:37","slug":"council-wont-allow-all-short-term-rentals-in-proposed-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/council-wont-allow-all-short-term-rentals-in-proposed-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Council won&#8217;t allow all short-term rentals in proposed development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most of the units in a proposed Beach Meadows triplex will be reserved for long-term renters.<\/p>\n<p>The developers, Albert and Paula Doucet asked Region of Queens to issue a development agreement permitting all three planned units, to be used for short-term rentals.<\/p>\n<p>The proponents wanted the property zoning changed from Hamlet Residential (HR) to Hamlet Core (HC) to allow the rentals.<\/p>\n<p>During a public hearing held ahead of the last Region of Queens council meeting, residents spoke overwhelmingly in favour of maintaining the current planning rules which limits the number of short-term rentals to one.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Darlene Norman says the residents who spoke were passionate about keeping their community residential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd they see the possibility of three short-term rental units as the demise or negative to their residential way of life in that community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After a discussion, a majority of council agreed that the area is residential and should remain so.<\/p>\n<p>They voted to maintain the status quo and allow one short-term and two long-term rentals on the property.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E-mail:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:edhalversonnews@gmail.com\">edhalversonnews@gmail.com<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Twitter: @edwardhalverson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>To listen to the broadcast of this story, press play below.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most of the units in a proposed Beach Meadows triplex will be reserved for long-term renters.
