{"id":146190,"date":"2023-03-29T12:34:21","date_gmt":"2023-03-29T16:34:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=146190"},"modified":"2023-03-29T12:34:21","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T16:34:21","slug":"abbotsford-reopens-public-hearing-for-mckee-neighbourhood-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/abbotsford-reopens-public-hearing-for-mckee-neighbourhood-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Abbotsford reopens public hearing for McKee Neighbourhood Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Abbotsford city council is reconsidering a previously approved neighbourhood plan for the McKee area after discovering non-compliance with the <em>Local Government Act<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A procedural error in the first and second readings of the bylaws on Jan. 30 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abbotsford.ca\/city-hall\/news-media\/mckee-neighbourhood-plan-update?utm_source=Cyberimpact&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=News-McKee-Neighbourhood-Plan-Update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was made clear to the public on March 23<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Local environmentalist John Vissers is pleased with the result because it means that another public hearing, similar to the one held on March 6, is needed<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in order to meet the proper legislative requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkabbotsford.ca\/mckee-peak-neighbourhood-plan#:~:text=The%20City%20of%20Abbotsford%20is,trails%2C%20parks%20and%20open%20spaces.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The McKee Neighbourhood Plan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a four-stage planning process that has been in development and planning stages since its first announcement in 2018. The McKee development will create amenities such as schools and houses, which will be anchored and connected by a new neighbourhood centre. With a goal that the neighbourhood would connect to the trials, open spaces, and parks that the McKee area is known for. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abbynews.com\/news\/dozens-speak-out-at-5-hour-hearing-on-mckee-neighbourhood-plan-in-abbotsford\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On March 6, a public hearing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was held to discuss the neighbourhood plan, which saw more than 50 speakers, both supporting and opposing the development plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vissers, a member of the City of Abbotsford\u2019s volunteer Community, Culture and the Environment Committee, sees this re-introduction of the plan as an opportunity to address the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">environmental damages that will be done and are not considered by the city\u2019s plan. Vissers is urging members of the Abbotsford communities to speak out against this plan in the new hearing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s one of our very last opportunities to help shape the McKee community plan.\u201d Vissers said. \u201cThis plan is going to radically alter Abbotsford\u2019s relationship with the national environment and focus much of our future growth.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe have one final opportunity to have some input on how this will proceed,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the full interview with John Vissers on the McKee Neighbourhood Plan with CIVL Radio here:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abbotsford city council is reconsidering a previously approved neighbourhood plan for the McKee area after discovering non-compliance with the Local Government Act.
