Along with working on a Climate Change Adaptation plan, Terrace city council has agreed to provide an additional $18,000 towards their Green Fleet plan.<\/p>\n
City Planner Jennifer MacIntyre says that the idea to build a fleet of electric vehicles for city staff came from city council meetings last year. Though MacIntyre says that the official plan started earlier this week.<\/p>\n
According to MacIntyre, the transition to electric vehicles will contribute to the city's hopes of greenhouse gas emissions being reduced to 80 per cent lower than 2007 levels by 2050.<\/p>\n
At first, the city was given a $20,000 estimate from B.C. Hydro who would cover $10,000 of the cost. But in a council meeting on March 13, the city allocated an additional $18,000 on top of the $10,000 that was budgeted. That funding is coming from the Local Government Climate Action Plan Reserve Fund, which is also contributing to the city's Climate Change Adaptation Plan.<\/p>\n
Currently in phase 2, once complete that plan will inform the city's Climate Action Plan. MacIntyre says that the plan is to have both projects complete by July 2023.<\/p>\n
