{"id":143867,"date":"2023-03-08T20:50:33","date_gmt":"2023-03-09T01:50:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=143867"},"modified":"2023-03-09T10:56:01","modified_gmt":"2023-03-09T15:56:01","slug":"toronto-centre-celebrates-international-womens-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/toronto-centre-celebrates-international-womens-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto Centre celebrates International Women&#8217;s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toronto Centre celebrated International Women\u2019s Day with several of its politicians speaking on the need for increased representation and equity for women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout the day, Toronto politicians including MP Marci Ien, MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam and Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie offered statements at various locations across the city, including high schools, community centres and the Ontario House of Commons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ien spoke about the IWD2023 hashtag campaign online to help share stories about inspirational girls and women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\"To celebrate <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\"><a class=\"css-4rbku5 css-18t94o4 css-901oao css-16my406 r-1cvl2hr r-1loqt21 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IWD2023?src=hashtag_click\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#IWD2023<\/a><\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">, we partnered with Build a Dream to welcome a room full of young leaders from all across southern Ontario who are working to inspire the next generation to take the torch and keep moving forward towards equity,\" Ien tweeted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wong-Tam spoke in the Ontario House of Commons calling on the government to introduce pay equity and protections against abuse for women.
