{"id":143774,"date":"2023-03-08T15:54:13","date_gmt":"2023-03-08T20:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=143774"},"modified":"2023-03-08T15:54:13","modified_gmt":"2023-03-08T20:54:13","slug":"marthas-table-purchases-additional-property-to-serve-more-of-the-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/marthas-table-purchases-additional-property-to-serve-more-of-the-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Martha&#8217;s Table purchases additional property to serve more of the community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Martha\u2019s Table, one of Kingston\u2019s community centres that provides nutritious meals, has recently purchased the adjacent property of the building it currently resides in for a warming centre. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The building is a historical one, meaning several repairs will need to be made for it to be fully functional, but parts of it have been opened to the public as a warming centre that provides coffee and tea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a press release, Executive Director Ronda Candy said that, \u201ct<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">he number of people unhoused in Kingston has tripled since the start of the pandemic, and most people walk to reach our facility, so this is an urgently needed service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Martha\u2019s Table had to reduce their services, but hope to open up soon again to serve three meals a day to those in need as soon as resources allow. Currently, Martha\u2019s Table serves takeout meals from 12-2 p.m., seven days a week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ronda Candy spoke to the purchasing of the new property, what Martha\u2019s Table hopes to achieve in the next year, and how people in the Kingston community can help.
