{"id":140506,"date":"2023-02-14T12:29:07","date_gmt":"2023-02-14T17:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=140506"},"modified":"2023-02-14T12:29:07","modified_gmt":"2023-02-14T17:29:07","slug":"city-of-prince-rupert-projects-feature-smalgyax-language","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/city-of-prince-rupert-projects-feature-smalgyax-language\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Prince Rupert projects feature Sm&#8217;algyax language"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The City of Prince Rupert is seeing both branding and signage upgrades to include Sm\u2019algyax language.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Originally started in 2020, the City of Prince Rupert first decided to upgrade their city logo, not long after a signage project was started by Tourism Prince Rupert. The formal announcement was then made in March 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The new logo design for the city was completed by Tsimshian artist Russell Mather and features the Sm\u2019algyax language.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe really wanted to make sure that we paid appropriate tribute to the territory that we live on,\u201d Veronika Stewart, manager of communications, engagement, and social development, said of the decision to include Sm\u2019algyax in the update.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At the same time, new signs were installed at all highway entrances to the city as well as wayfinding signage at popular spots around town.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Local artists were commissioned to design all of the new signs. In addition to Mather\u2019s logo design being used on the entrance signs, Chris Fraser, Lucy Trimble, Rod Tasaka, and Kristen McKay are all featured on the art pieces. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Installation and manufacturing of the signs were done throughout the first week of February by Innovative Signage and Broadwater Industries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ceilidh Marlow, executive director for Tourism Prince Rupert, who led the signage project, says that there are plans to install more wayfinding signage within the next couple of weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the CFNR story below:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Prince Rupert is seeing both branding and signage upgrades to include Sm\u2019algyax language.
