{"id":139882,"date":"2023-02-07T15:01:58","date_gmt":"2023-02-07T20:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=139882"},"modified":"2023-02-08T16:00:52","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T21:00:52","slug":"139882","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/139882\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cArchives for the Future\u201d: Sutton museum launches call for proposals for summer exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The Mus\u00e9e des communications et d\u2019histoire de Sutton has launched a call for projects for its 2024 exhibition summer exhibition \u201cArchives for the Future.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In collaboration with H\u00e9ritage Sutton, the museum is calling on photographers and artists across Brome-Missisquoi to snap quality photographs of Sutton (including Abercorn) that will serve as archives for future generations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to the museum\u2019s press release, up to five photography projects will be selected by a committee made up of a member of the Museum's Board, a member of H\u00e9ritage Sutton, and \u201ctwo people recognized for their sensitivity to the quality of the projects.\"<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A production fee of $1,000 will be granted to each of the projects and, with the approval of the board of directors, the cost of the materials necessary for the exhibition of the photographs will be paid by the museum.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It will be possible for the selected artists to sell their photos as a limited series. The deadline to submit project proposals is Feb. 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIn past years, we have touched on many subjects, like singers, painters, people from cinema, but we have never touched photography.\u201d said Charles Constantin, president of the board of directors for the museum. \u201c(\u2026) We sat down with two renowned photographers in Sutton to develop this concept.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The museum then approached H\u00e9ritage Sutton, whom also supported the idea of having a photography exhibition.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAll the pictures will be transferred to H\u00e9ritage Sutton at the end of the exhibition. This will be a part of their archives for the future,\u201d noted Constantin. \u201cIn 30-50 years from now, if people are asking \u2018oh, how was life in 2023-2024 in the Sutton area?\u2019 We will have all of the answers in the archives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As part of the exhibition, which will open to the public in June 2024, H\u00e9ritage Sutton will be providing archival photos of Sutton in the past.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe will select some pictures from H\u00e9ritage Sutton maybe from 50, 60, 100 years ago. We will incorporate that in the exhibition at the same time. It will be kind of a look at the past, today, but we will have archives for the future at the same time,\u201d mentioned Constantin.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In terms of what areas of Sutton the museum wants artists to focus on, Constantin said the choice is their\u2019s.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIn the objectives, we want them to consider all parts of Sutton. (\u2026) We talk a lot about the centre of town, we talk about the ski hill, but there are many, many parts of Sutton which are forgotten, like Glen Sutton, Sutton Junction, North Sutton,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe want them to take that into consideration to give some space to all of the areas of Sutton. After that, we give them the \u2018carte-blanche\u2019 to come up with a project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Artists also have the freedom to choose the theme for their project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt can be about lifestyle, architecture, it can be about community life. All of the projects we select will have a different view of Sutton because society is evolving, it\u2019s changing. It\u2019s not the same Sutton as 50 years ago,\u201d highlighted Constantin.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cArchives for the Future\u201d is just one of many exhibitions that the museum puts on for the community. There is a new exhibition every year that runs from June to October with the hopes of getting more people engaged in their local museum.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe have noticed in the past five or six years local people they don\u2019t visit the museum anymore because they have visited it once or twice in their life.
