{"id":135005,"date":"2023-01-06T18:57:25","date_gmt":"2023-01-06T23:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=135005"},"modified":"2023-01-06T18:57:25","modified_gmt":"2023-01-06T23:57:25","slug":"nelson-leafs-coach-steps-down-team-to-pay-5000-fine-after-on-ice-brawl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/nelson-leafs-coach-steps-down-team-to-pay-5000-fine-after-on-ice-brawl\/","title":{"rendered":"Nelson Leafs coach steps down, team to pay $5,000 fine after on-ice brawl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nelson Leafs head coach Adam DiBella has <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kijhl.ca\/statement-from-the-nelson-leafs\">announced he is stepping down<\/a><\/strong> from the job permanently, after facing a suspension by the KIJHL for the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The decision comes after Saturday's line brawl between players from the Leafs and their opponent Beaver Valley Nitehawks, which sparked an investigation into DiBellas role in the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur investigation determined that the incident in Saturday\u2019s game was instigated by the Leafs at Mr. DiBella\u2019s direction,\u201d says KIJHL commissioner Jeff Dubois. \u201cThe KIJHL has zero tolerance for these types of actions by any team staff member, and the severity of Mr. DiBella\u2019s suspension reflects the seriousness that we place on leadership and player safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>KCR News was not able to reach DiBella for comment, but in a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nelsonstar.com\/sports\/breaking-nelson-leafs-head-coach-suspended-for-remainder-of-kijhl-season\/\">statement to the Nelson Star<\/a><\/strong>, DiBella said he was embarrassed over his actions, which put 10 players at risk.<\/p>\n<p>The team will be under temporary leadership by Assistant Coach Tyson Soobotin and General Manager Lance Morey.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>'It's upsetting and pretty disappointing'\u2013KIJHL Commissioner Jeff DuBois speaks to KCR News about the decision to suspend Leafs coach<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nelson Leafs head coach Adam DiBella has announced he is stepping down from the job permanently, after facing a suspension by the KIJHL for the remainder of the season.
