{"id":132720,"date":"2022-12-16T15:53:29","date_gmt":"2022-12-16T20:53:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=132720"},"modified":"2022-12-16T15:53:29","modified_gmt":"2022-12-16T20:53:29","slug":"youth-dies-after-police-interaction-in-creston-on-wednesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/youth-dies-after-police-interaction-in-creston-on-wednesday\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth dies after police interaction in Creston on Wednesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The civilian watchdog which oversees police in British Columbia has deployed its investigators to Creston after a youth died following a police interaction on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iiobc.ca\/media\/iio-is-investigating-a-police-involved-shooting-incident-in-creston-2022-334\/\">Independent Investigations Office (IIO)<\/a><\/strong> states that the interaction happened just after 3:30 a.m on Wednesday December 14, when an officer with Creston RCMP was conducting a vehicle check on a pickup truck parked on a driveway.<\/p>\n<p>BC RCMP, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bc-cb.rcmp-grc.gc.ca\/ViewPage.action?siteNodeId=2087&amp;languageId=1&amp;contentId=77808\">in its own statement<\/a><\/strong> following the event, said that the driver, a young man, put his car in reverse, during at which time the officer discharged his weapon.<\/p>\n<p>The driver and vehicle left the scene, but was found a short distance away, in a ditch along Highway 3A and Mather Road, with the young male suffering from a gunshot wound.
