Cortes Currents has posts about t<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/housing-campbell-river\/\">hree projects, with120 homes, in Campbell River<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/campbell-rivers-bridge-to-housing-for-the-homeless\/\">Kristi Schwanicke, Coordinator of the Campbell River &amp; District Coalition to End Homelessness, says<\/a>\u00a0these projects will have a tremendous impact on the city\u2019s homeless problem.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/findng-home-options-and-challenges\/\">last week\u2019s edition of Folk U<\/a>, Manda Aufochs Gillespie reported:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c \u2026 I also reached to get more specific stats from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bchousing.org\/research-centre\">BC Housing Research Centre<\/a>\u00a0on this very question and they told me get back in touch after the new cabinet has been formed. Our Government is making the largest affordable housing investment in BC history, including thousands of mixed income affordable homes already underway around the province, with more to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bchousing.org\/projects-partners\/Building-BC\/CHF\">Building BC Community Housing Funds<\/a>\u00a0first intake, launched in 2018, we are currently working with non-profits to build new affordable rental homes on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cortes Island \u2013 4 homes<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comoxvalleyrecord.com\/news\/hornby-island-receives-money-to-build-affordable-homes\/\">Hornby Island<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 26 homes<\/li>\n<li>and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/saltspringcommunityservices.ca\/services\/shelter-and-housing\/salt-spring-commons\/\">Salt Spring Island<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 80 homes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe province has also recently issued a second call for proposals under the community housing fund and communities are encouraged for more housing to meet their needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><figcaption>\n<div id=\"attachment_13037\" style=\"width: 611px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"dt-pswp-item\" href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/20160302_095045.jpg\" data-dt-img-description=\"Phase one of the Cortes Island Seniors village, phase two is under construction \u2013 Cortes Island Seniors Society\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13037\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13037\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/20160302_095045.jpg\" alt=\"affordable housing project\" width=\"601\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/20160302_095045.jpg 601w, https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/20160302_095045-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/20160302_095045-320x213.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13037\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Phase one of the Cortes Island Seniors village, phase two is under construction \u2013 Cortes Island Seniors Society<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Political Banter<\/h2>\n<p>Affordable housing was on the list of questions Cortes Currents sent out to the NDP, Liberal and Green candidates in our riding.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the Liberal team 'respectively declined' to comment, suggesting that we check their press releases instead.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcliberals.com\/2019\/09\/08\/making-housing-more-affordable\/\">One of these<\/a> claimed the Government only built 2,430 rental units in the first two years of their mandate.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/vancouversun.com\/news\/politics\/ndp-slow-to-fulfil-affordable-housing-targets-report-says\">November 5, 2019 article in the Vancouver SUN<\/a>, \"Two years into the NDP\u2019s mandate, an update from B.C.
