{"id":130222,"date":"2022-12-05T16:20:53","date_gmt":"2022-12-05T21:20:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=130222"},"modified":"2022-12-05T16:20:53","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T21:20:53","slug":"lax-kxeen-elementary-plans-to-expand-outdoor-learning-structure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/lax-kxeen-elementary-plans-to-expand-outdoor-learning-structure\/","title":{"rendered":"Lax Kxeen Elementary plans to expand outdoor learning structure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Prince Rupert's Lax Kxeen Elementary School is hoping to expand their newly-constructed outdoor classroom to further promote active learning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With funding from the Prince Rupert Port Authority, an outdoor classroom was completed at the school back in September.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now, Principle Tania Murray says that the school is already looking to expand on the building.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Along with essentials like portable whiteboards, tables, and chairs, Murray also hopes to build structures like a musical wall, garden beds, and a mud kitchen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Murray hopes that these additions will add more opportunities for students to learn in a hands on way, adding that not every student can thrive sitting at a desk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The first phase of this project consisted of having the gazebo-like structure installed, which features soft rubber flooring, steel structuring and a sunlight in the top.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That project cost a total of $82,000, with $40,000 coming from the Port Authority\u2019s Community Investment Fund.
