A 21-year old employee at Beaver Valley Arena has been suspended and is facing voyeurism charges after a cell phone which was apparently set up to record had been found in the women's change room.<\/p>\n

Trail RCMP told KCR News that it was during a girls' hockey practice that a player had found the cell phone in the change room and alerted and adult, who called the police. Serg. Mike Wicentowich with the Trail detachment said the officers on the scene conducted a short investigation which led to the arrest of the 21-year-old Trail man.<\/p>\n

\"At this time we believe it is a single incident; however, we do have an investigation to conduct, and we hope if there are other incidents that we will uncover that,\" he said.<\/p>\n

Wicentowich called the discovery \"incredibly concerning\" as the suspicions involve an employee, who has access to several enclosed spaces, like change rooms.<\/p>\n

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB), which operates the Beaver Valley Arena, said it will be checking all areas of the arena, including restrooms and locker rooms after the incident, which it called \"the first of its kind.\" Victim Services is providing support to any members of the public or staff affected.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re shocked, angry and saddened that this troubling incident has taken place in our community and that trust has been breached but we will do everything in our power to support the investigation, help bring it to a swift conclusion and act on any lessons learnt,\u201d says RDKB\u2019s Chief Administrative Officer Mark Andison in a statement.<\/div>\n

All RDKB employees who work with children and vulnerable individuals, or who have access to RDKB financial resources, undergo a criminal records check before being hired.<\/div>\n
