{"id":126381,"date":"2022-11-17T00:44:18","date_gmt":"2022-11-17T05:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=126381"},"modified":"2022-11-17T00:44:18","modified_gmt":"2022-11-17T05:44:18","slug":"mass-boat-removal-by-bc-parks-changes-only-15-unseaworthy-boats-to-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/mass-boat-removal-by-bc-parks-changes-only-15-unseaworthy-boats-to-move\/","title":{"rendered":"Mass boat removal by BC Parks changes, only 15 &#8216;unseaworthy&#8217; boats to move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The mass boat removal on Cortes Island scheduled for this month has been changed by BC Parks.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, BC Parks left notices on dozens of boats on the beach at Mansons Spit. slated for removal by mid-November. <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The notices refered to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca\/civix\/document\/id\/complete\/statreg\/180_90_01\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Park, Conservancy and Recreation Area Regulation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and gave owners 30 days to remove the boats or else the vessels will be removed and destroyed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Nov. 7, CKTZ reported that BC Parks media representative David Karn confirmed that, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">57 boats in the area have been identified for removal.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Nov. 9, Karn updated the media upon request, clarifying that less boats would be dealt with in November: 15 boats, instead of 57 vessels, will be removed in the coming weeks<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBC Parks is taking a phased approach \u2026will be focused on the approximately 15 boats identified as unseaworthy\u2026Information will be communicated through community engagement,\u201d he stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Karn also suggested that it is BC Park's intention to engage the community and First Nations directly moving forward on the erosion mitigation concerns at Mansons Spit, also know by its Indigenous name \"<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clytosin<\/span>.\"<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lisa Ferentinos, a local to Cortes, <a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/bc-parks-schedules-mass-boat-removal-at-mansons-lagoon-provincial-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">received the notice on her kayak last month<\/a>. Ferentinos has a boat moored in Mansons Lagoon and uses her kayak to access the moored boat often.
