{"id":124096,"date":"2022-10-28T15:27:31","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T19:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=124096"},"modified":"2022-10-28T15:27:31","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T19:27:31","slug":"recent-round-of-upgrades-completed-for-ferry-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/recent-round-of-upgrades-completed-for-ferry-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent round of upgrades completed for Ferry Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A series of projects was completed this week on Ferry Island, with still more upgrades on the way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Work started in 2021 with $30,000 in funding from the Northern Development Initiative Trust, and $15,000 from Terrace\u2019s Community Reserve Fund. Recent upgrades were complete on Oct. 25, marked with widening and smoothing on a trail stretch between the east and west sides of the island.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Current upgrades to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terrace.ca\/parks-recreation\/ferry-island-campground\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">municipal campground<\/a> located between Terrace and Thornhill are part of a more expansive project for the island, according to the General Manager for Terrace Community Forest Kim Haworth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Haworth explained that last year, upgrades mostly consisted of trail resurfacing on the south end of the island.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year, more emergency work was done to trails following flood damage. Haworth also said that picnic shelters and bathrooms were made low-barrier for better wheelchair access, and a bridge on the east side of the island was replaced with steel structures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To date, approximately $65,000 in upgrades has been completed, with the Terrace Community Forest taking the lead with funding for this year\u2019s work, says Project Supervisor for Terrace Community Forest Carl Johansen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis project on Ferry Island is an ongoing project, and there\u2019ll be more activities coming up next year,\u201d Haworth says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the CFNR story with Carl Johansen and Kim Haworth below:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A series of projects was completed this week on Ferry Island, with still more upgrades on the way.\u00a0 Work started in 2021 with $30,000 in funding from the Northern Development Initiative Trust, and $15,000 from Terrace\u2019s Community Reserve Fund.
