In the early morning hours of Oct. 26, guests in a hotel in Smithers were shocked to see vehicles engulfed in flames in the parking lot of the Sunshine Inn.<\/p>\n

A front desk employeeof the hotel, who wished to remain anonymous, told CICK News, \"the fire alarm didn't go off because the fire was outside in the parking lot, not a structure fire anywhere inside the building.\"<\/p>\n

Some guests on the southeast side of the hotel were woken up by the bright fire, while other slept through the entire ordeal. A small group of guests at the hotel went door to door knocking to alert people of the fire nearby, which had already attracted bystanders.<\/p>\n

Fire and police were dispatched to the Sunshine Inn just after 4AM, and they began working to put out these fires before any gas tanks exploded.<\/p>\n

The vehicles that were burned were three RCMP trucks and an ambulance<\/a> along with four other vehicles close by that were burned (but not targeted).<\/p>\n

RCMP North Media Advisory Manager Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said the attack was targeted.<\/p>\n

\"This was a targeted attack on police and anyone who has information or was driving on Highway 16 between the hours of 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on October 26th to please contact the RCMP North District at 250-561-3166.\"<\/p>\n
