work, celebrate Canada&#8217;s freshwater"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The H\u2019art Centre is showcasing the work of neurodiverse artists across Canada in the new exhibit <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Connecting Canadians: Freshwater. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The exhibit features over 50 canvases and sculptures created in inclusive art studios and their allied organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">H\u2019art Centre Marketing and Communications Manager Tracy Ryan says the project began through a partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marmuseum.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Marine Museum of The Great Lakes<\/a> to commemorate the 50th anniversary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/environment-climate-change\/corporate\/international-affairs\/partnerships-countries-regions\/north-america\/great-lakes-water-quality-agreement.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Great Lakes Water Quality Agreemen<\/a>t, a commitment between Canada and The United States to restore and protect The Great Lakes:<\/span><\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-122791-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Tracy-Ryan-CLIP.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Tracy-Ryan-CLIP.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Tracy-Ryan-CLIP.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>The H'art Centre then reached out to a network of inclusive arts groups including: <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newleaflink.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Leaf Link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Harrowsmith, ON), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/beingstudio.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being Studio<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Ottawa, ON), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.creatingalternatives.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating Alternatives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Vaughan, ON), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.larchetoronto.org\/sol-express\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0L\u2019Arche Toronto's-Sol Express<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Toronto, ON), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/reachcentre.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reach Centre<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Owen Sound, ON), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenina.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Edmonton, AB), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/accessarts.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National AccessArts Centre<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Calgary, AB) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/alternativesart.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alternative Creations Studio<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Vancouver, BC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe asked them to reflect on their own relationship with freshwater and to create art that reflected that theme,\" says Ryan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The exhibit will be the first to be displayed at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hartcentre.ca\/the-mix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">THE MIX<\/a>, the H\u2019art Centre\u2019s new four thousand sq. ft. gallery and outreach space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe were really lucky to have a space adjacent to H\u2019art Centre that we were able to expand into\u2026It\u2019s got a 50 ft. gallery wall\u2026Some of our H\u2019art studio activities have expanded in there and we\u2019ve also welcomed other inclusive art groups to have residencies there to do rehearsals, to be trained in inclusive arts\u2026.We see it as a place that can accelerate inclusive arts in Kingston and the region,\u201d says Ryan.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The H'art Centre has operated in Kingston as a charitable community arts hub providing opportunities for artists with disabilities and those facing barriers to create for 25 years.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019ve developed our own approach about how to make the arts very inclusive and accessible.\u00a0 At H\u2019art Centre we include dance music, theatre, textile artists. If we have community artists that are interested in doing something with the community we\u2019re very interested in hearing from them\u2026We developed our own award-winning training program called MixAbilities and we offer that a couple times a year to community artists that want to know how to make the arts inclusive to many different people,\u201d says Ryan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the partnership project between The H'art Centre and The Marine Museum of The Great Lakes,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marmuseum.ca\/education\/museum-events\/our-great-lakes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Our Great Lakes<\/em><\/a>, a diorama-style community art installation will be unveiled on Sunday, Oct. 23 at The Marine Museum and will be on display until December.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey offered some workshops on the Great Lakes throughout the summer both to H'art studio artists and the public\u2026during some of those the community created artwork which has contributed to this large-scale installation,\u201d says Ryan.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The full exhibit, <em>Connecting<\/em><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Canadians: Freshwater <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is on display starting Friday, Oct. 28 and running every Friday until Dec. 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The MIX.
