{"id":117353,"date":"2022-09-23T11:28:30","date_gmt":"2022-09-23T15:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=117353"},"modified":"2022-09-23T11:28:30","modified_gmt":"2022-09-23T15:28:30","slug":"county-council-makes-heritage-plan-a-reality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/county-council-makes-heritage-plan-a-reality\/","title":{"rendered":"County council makes heritage plan a reality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/princeedwardcounty.civicweb.net\/FileStorage\/FF309761AB514746BC850E6EC92C4124-Att%201%20-%20HCD%20Plan%20with%20Track%20Changes.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wellington Heritage Conservation District Plan<\/a> was approved and adopted by Prince Edward County Council on Tuesday, Sept. 20.<\/p>\n<p>The plan was presented with changes after hearing from concerned residents and business owners earlier this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The heritage plan, which is a culmination of a process that began in July 2019, seeks to preserve the downtown core of Wellington as it has a high density of historical buildings and cultural assets compared to the rest of the county. It \u201cessentially is an expression of what local residents want to conserve,\u201d and is used \u201cto help manage change in ways that conserve and enhance those aspects of a place that local people most value,\u201d while operating in tandem with a municipality\u2019s official and secondary plans.<\/p>\n<p>The heritage plan was not without its critics, as numerous presentations were heard describing the plan as one-size-fits-all and <a href=\"https:\/\/princeedwardcounty.civicweb.net\/FileStorage\/915DC21484B447DBBA8FCDFDC7CD1DD4-Wellington%20HCD%20MTBA%20Revisions%20and%20Suggestions.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">too restrictive of organic commercial growth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the full CJPE story below:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Wellington Heritage Conservation District Plan was approved and adopted by Prince Edward County Council on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
