{"id":116980,"date":"2022-09-20T15:10:27","date_gmt":"2022-09-20T19:10:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=116980"},"modified":"2022-09-21T22:03:25","modified_gmt":"2022-09-22T02:03:25","slug":"canadas-longest-running-campus-radio-station-honours-long-standing-volunteers-as-it-celebrates-100-years-of-broadcasting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/canadas-longest-running-campus-radio-station-honours-long-standing-volunteers-as-it-celebrates-100-years-of-broadcasting\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada&#8217;s longest running campus radio station celebrates 100 years of broadcasting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Oct. 7, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfrc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CFRC 101.9 FM<\/a> will celebrate 100 years of broadcasting from Queen\u2019s University in Kingston with a plaque unveiling ceremony. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Queen's University Principal and Vice Chancellor Patrick Deane, City of Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson, MP Mark Gerretsen, MPP Ted Hsu, and former Station Manager Steve Cutway will speak at the event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CFRC will also honour two volunteers who have broadcasted on the station for over 40 consecutive years: Jim Birch, host of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfrc.ca\/canadian_shield\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Shield,<\/a> and Wayne Vermette, host of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfrc.ca\/the_blues_project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Blues Project<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c40 years gone by you wonder.. Why am I staying? Why am I doing it this way? The big why is sending out music\u2026Blues is the music of truth, the music of healing. My aim was to bring music that was somewhat current and toward the student body\u2026I\u2019ve become attuned to my own healing as well. It\u2019s good for me. I get a solid fix every Saturday from 6 to 8, I\u2019m very comfortable continuing on and I hope that what I\u2019m sending out is music of truth and healing,\u201d says Vermette.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vermette, who has been with CFRC for 41 years, adds he has met his two goals:<\/span><\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-116980-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Wayne-Vermette-CLIP.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Wayne-Vermette-CLIP.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Wayne-Vermette-CLIP.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. just outside the station at Carruthers Hall on Queen\u2019s University campus.
