Kingston residents will have a new intercity transit option starting Sept. 15. German company Flix Bus<\/a> is expanding its Canadian service, adding a Kingston stop on its Toronto to Ottawa line at 275 Wellington St.<\/p>\n

North America President and COO Pierre Gourdain says Kingston was under-addressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cKingston is a very dynamic city, it\u2019s a student city, but there are also a lot of people just visiting. We saw something was missing, people are still relying too much on cars when visiting from Ottawa or from Toronto\u2026We think the Flix service is the way to address this and offer a more comfortable, cleaner, more convenient and also more accessible option to discover Kingston,\u201d says Gourdain.<\/p>\n

Trips to Toronto from Kingston start at $21.19, while trips to Ottawa start at $19.99. The line will make two trips per day in both directions.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlix will always be the cheapest service. We think more people should be able to travel, nobody should be forced not to take a trip, that\u2019s really our vision. The buses are busy but that allows more people to travel, the more travel, the more Flix Buses we have. We create this cycle where we take more people out of their cars,\u201d says Gourdain.<\/p>\n

Flix Bus is the only bus platform in the world that offers its passengers the ability to offset CO2 emissions. Customers can purchase \u201cCO2 Compensation\u201d tickets during booking, with one to three per cent of the original ticket price being added to their ticket. Gourdain says he hopes Flix Bus will become a household brand and that people will think differently about how they travel.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always an accessible price, and you start taking more trips to see your significant other, to maybe visit your parents that you haven\u2019t seen in a while or your grandparents. Those trips will enrich your lives and make for a better world,\u201d says Gourdain.<\/p>\n

The bus stop will be at the curbside drop off zone on Wellington Street between Barrack Street and Tragically Hip Way. Toronto-bound<\/a> buses will depart from Kingston at 11:25 a.m., with a route to Scarborough leaving at 6:25 p.m. Ottawa-bound<\/a> buses will leave Kingston at 12:20 p.m. and 6:05 p.m. Passengers can download the Flix Bus app<\/a> to buy tickets and find departure times.<\/p>\n
