{"id":11442,"date":"2020-09-24T16:18:15","date_gmt":"2020-09-24T20:18:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=11442"},"modified":"2020-09-24T16:18:15","modified_gmt":"2020-09-24T20:18:15","slug":"mount-forests-new-entryway-signs-spark-debate-and-vandalism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/mount-forests-new-entryway-signs-spark-debate-and-vandalism\/","title":{"rendered":"Mount Forest\u2019s new entryway signs spark debate and vandalism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are some residents in Mount Forest who are making it loud and clear that they are not happy about the town\u2019s new entrance signs being changed.<\/p>\n<p>The old entryway signs used to say, \u2018High-Healthy-Happy\u2019 and now say, \u2018Simply Explore.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox says the change of the signs were made due to a grant from the provincial government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we established a committee of community stakeholders to decide how to best utilize those resources and one of the projects that they tackled, or [they] thought was important, was refreshing the entryway signs,\u201d Lennox said. \u201cThe committee I know had some significant debate about whether to include the \u2018High-Healthy-Happy\u2019 or not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After some lengthy discussion and debate, the committee decided to not include the \u2018High-Healthy- Happy\u2019 on the new entryway signs.<\/p>\n<p>A petition for the old entryway signs gathered around 600 signatures, but was quickly shut down due to one of the signs being vandalized recently.<\/p>\n<p>Lennox says that not everyone understands what the \u2018high\u2019 part of the slogan was intended to be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMount Forest is very close to the highest altitude in Southern Ontario \u2026 I mean over towards Dundalk is actually the highest point in Southern Ontario, but we\u2019re very close to it in terms of elevation above sea level, but I\u2019m not sure everybody understood that from the slogan,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-11442-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/clip-2.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/clip-2.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/clip-2.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lennox says that some people associate the sign with another meaning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was talking to another reporter last week and he was telling me a friend of his sent him a bunch of posts from Instagram where people were taking selfies in front of the sign with a joint in their hand,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>Lennox says he honestly doesn\u2019t know at this point what\u2019s going to happen to the petition.<\/p>\n<p>He adds that the slogan hasn\u2019t gone away, as it still can be seen on the town\u2019s most prominent landmark-the water tower.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11458\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11458\" class=\"wp-image-11458 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/1B85B56E-F308-484A-951B-8FBBD6F723AD-1-375x500.jpeg\" alt=\"A photo of the Mount Forest tower.\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11458\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The old Mount Forest slogan can be seen on the town\u2019s most prominent landmark: the water tower.
