According to Carmen Mills, it is less stressful if you remove a personal motor vehicle from the equation. Mills is one of the founders of Car-Free Vancouver, an event that began in 2005.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mills happily rides her bike and utilizes public transit\u2014the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.islandlinkbus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Island Link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/viconnector.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vancouver Island Connector<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcferries.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">BC Ferries<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014in order to travel without a car. She recently detailed all the options to roll from Cortes to Vancouver, Courtenay, Nanaimo, or Victoria in a post on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cortesisland.com\/tideline\/show14823a\/CAR-FREE_travel_to_and_from_Cortes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tideline<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Mills spoke with CKTZ about\u00a0 her inspiration for the post.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\"I was so tired of people saying it's impossible to get to Cortes Island from anywhere without a car\u2026. it must be possible because I've been going back, and sometimes many times a year, for the last 12 years\u2026. And I don't really feel like I've suffered for it. In fact, quite the opposite,\" Mills said. \"So I wrote out the steps: how you can do it, the different options\u2014there's different options for different people.\"<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The bike enthusiast notes that there's one gap in the public transit between Courtenay and Nanaimo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou can almost get to Nanaimo\u2026 If you have your bike, you're cool. There's like a 10 kilometer gap. it's too complicated to get into. But the fact is you cannot public transit all the way to Nanaimo yet. There's that little tiny gap.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mills blogs about her car-less lifestyle on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bicyclebuddha.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bicyclebuddha.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
