{"id":113341,"date":"2022-08-29T14:35:09","date_gmt":"2022-08-29T18:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=113341"},"modified":"2022-08-29T14:35:09","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T18:35:09","slug":"local-geothermal-company-gains-support-from-shell-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/local-geothermal-company-gains-support-from-shell-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Local geothermal company gains support from Shell Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Kitselas Geothermal Incorporated (KGI) has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geothermalcanada.org\/news\/2022\/8\/15\/shell-canada-signs-joint-development-agreement-with-kitselas-geothermal-inc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> that they have entered into a joint development agreement with Shell Canada which took effect at the end of July.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement will support KGI in their goal of using geothermal energy as an alternative energy source for industrial heating in the Terrace area.<\/p>\n<p>KGI has been working with Calgary based Borealis GeoPower for the past decade on a multi-phase project called \u201cFuel for Reconciliation\u201d emphasizing economic reconciliation for the Kitselas nation.<\/p>\n<p>Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source that comes from within the earth, most people associate it with natural hot springs, though Borealis president Alison Thompson explained that it can be used to heat businesses, and even be turned into electricity.<\/p>\n<p>Support from Shell will help to lower the overall risk of the project, which Thompson hopes will open the door to more investment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Back in January, KGI also received support from the province, getting $500,000 in funding from the B.C.\u2019s First Nations Clean Energy Business Fund.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the full radio story below:<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Kitselas Geothermal Incorporated (KGI) has announced that they have entered into a joint development agreement with Shell Canada which took effect at the end of July.
