After vacating the seat for about 40 days,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rose Milczyn was voted in with 22 of 25 votes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She will be the interim councillor until the Oct. 24 municipal election.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The longtime Etobicoke resident told council that she does not intend to run for the council seat in October, and will remain in a transitory role for the ward.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Milczyn is the city\u2019s former district manager for its bylaw enforcement division, and has a 40-year history working for different levels of government.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her appointment comes after Rosemarie Bryan resigned as Ward 1 councillor hours after being voted in.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Past <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/goldsbie\/status\/1540429831518580736\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook posts<\/a> that were allegedly homophobic in nature emerged on social media, prompting Bryan to resign in a written statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Canadaland\u2019s Jonathan Goldsbie was the first to bring the posts to light, criticizing the council for voting in a candidate with alleged homophobic views during June\u2019s pride month.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voters, including Toronto Mayor John Tory, said they would have not voted for Bryan had they known about the posts.\u00a0 The council promised better due diligence in their voting process for interim councillors moving forward.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the initial vote,\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bryan received 21 votes from council.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to the Aug. 15 council meeting, Milczyn was one of 17 candidates for the seat.\u00a0<\/span>She will be sworn as council later this week.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Milczyn was contacted to discuss her new role in Ward 1 and what she hopes to accomplish prior to the October election.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CJRU is awaiting a response.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More details to come.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Listen to CJRU's news update:<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto city council voted in an interim councillor for Ward 1 Etobicoke North this week.
